Fishing Report for Marathon

Here at Tranquility Bay Resort, we’re a little obsessed with lobster. Which is why we’re so excited at the results of 2012′s spiny lobster season thus far– with novices and experts alike reporting back to us that they’re getting their daily limits with ease. We love reading Best Bet Sportfishing Charter’s fishing reports, both because they’re educational (Captain Jason Long is a pro) and because they always lift our spirits when we’re trapped inside, dreaming of the open seas. Long has some great advice for those of you who are looking to get out on the water and grab some tails. Check out his words of wisdom here.

Did you know that our brilliant chefs at the Butterfly Cafe are more than happy to cook your catch for you? However you like it– grilled, blackened, baked or fried– there’s nothing as satisfying as coming back from a charter flush with fish and being able to enjoy the fruits of your labor mere hours afterwards…all without the hassle of having to cook & clean up yourself! Why not try your hand at lobstering this year, and have our kitchens prepare some tasty tails for you and your family? Just speak to the front desk here at Tranquility Bay for the best charter option to fit your needs… it’s so easy, even a lobster could do it.

Isaac Update

Many of you wrote in to let us know that we at Tranquility Bay were in your thoughts as Tropical Storm Isaac approached us here in Marathon. We appreciated all your kind words immensely and are pleased to report that our resort suffered no damage and we are back to business as usual. If you’re planning on visiting us this week/end, you can expect no delays or discomforts from the storm whatsoever.

Amidst your emails were a few frantic messages about the adopted cat family we have here on the property– where would they go in the event of a hurricane? We’re happy to comment that the livelihood of these cats is just as important to us as you, and that they were moved to a secure shelter in case of flooding.

The cats were, of course, less than pleased about this arrangement, preferring their usual sun patches over a kennel. We have since apologized profusely to them for the discomfort caused in the evacuation process. They are playing it cool, as usual.

Forecast for Marathon

With Isaac in town, we haven’t been out on the beach lately, sticking to indoor movies and board games instead. This week’s forecast looks to be a continuation of the thundery gusts and indecisive skies we’ve been seeing these past couple of days. Expect more rain, wind and general gloominess to persist through the weekend, with intermittent watery sunshine making a possible appearance towards the end of the week. Those of you brave enough to get out on the water can expect hearty swells and winds, though the fish don’t seem to mind and have been showing up for those bold enough to try their luck at fishing. One thing’s for sure: regardless of the rain, the temperature is set to hover at a summery 90 degrees all week!

We hope you find a way to enjoy yourselves this week…keep dry, and swing by the front desk at our lovely Tranquility Bay Resort to inquire as to which rainy day activities our agents recommend.

Dixie Swim Club Reprised

Fans of Marathon’s Community Theatre were saddened to see one of its most popular shows, the Dixie Swim Club, close its run in January of this year. Those same fans (and new ones, too!) will be glad to hear that the Dixie Swim Club is BACK for a three-night reprisal reading! Get your tickets now for this week’s limited run.

From Marathon Community Theatre:

The Dixie Swim Club
Reprised

by Jessie Jones, Nicholas Hope, Jamie Wooten
MCT is thrilled to bring the director and cast back from the popular January production of The Dixie Swim Club for our Summer Reading.
The Dixie Swim Club is the story of five Southern women, friends since their days on a college swim team, who gather every year for a long weekend – no husbands, no kids, no work involvement– in a beach cottage on North Carolina’s Outer Banks. Here they laugh, catch up and meddle in each other’s lives. The women, whose lives have taken them in vastly different directions since they left college, help each other get through the challenges of life: motherhood, men, divorce, marriage, jobs, aging, with hilarious and touching repartee. As their lives unfold, we learn that true friendships last forever.

Weather Forecast For Tranquility Bay

We have to smile every time we see a forecast like this week’s …. it really doesn’t get any better than this for a week at the beach or out on the water! With temperatures between the 80′s and low 90′s and sunny skies predicted to hang around all week, we’re packing up our beach bag and heading to the pool to stake out some prime beach chairs. And the low winds and relatively low chance of rain mean it’s an extra great time to get out on the water for fishing, sailing, jet-skiing, you name it!

As always, remember that our sunny days can be extra scorching, so load up on the SPF and try to hit the beach after the hottest part of the day (between 10am and 2pm is especially sizzling, so that’s a great time to hit the shade of the Tiki Bar for an ice cold drink and some tasty bites.)

If there’s any special trip you’d like to plan, be it a fishing charter or a sunset sail, stop by the front desk here at Tranquility Bay and speak to one of our superstar agents. They’ll be happy to help you and your family find the perfect way to celebrate such a fabulous forecast.

Weekend Fishing Report for Marathon

Scorching hot weather this weekend means it’s a great time to get out on the water where the temperatures are cooler, and where the fishing reports are coming back full of exciting leads! Offshore Mahi-Mahi are back after disappointing numbers over the past few weeks, with Blackfin Tuna being brought in as well. For those who prefer to keep a little closer to shore, reef fishing is as great as it’s been all summer, with Mangrove, Mutton and Yellowtail Snapper being hauled up in abundance, and Black Grouper being spotted as well.

Our pick for an excellent charter boat option this week is “The Best Bet,” whose boats are located at Key Colony Beach Marina at Mile Marker 54. Reports of their recent Blue Marlin catch have us itching to head out on a day trip with those folks. To book a trip or to find out more about what’s biting you can give their Captain Jason Long a call at 305-395-1376.

As always, if you need advice on which trip suits you and your needs best, ask your friendly front desk agent at Tranquility Bay. They’ll be more than happy to point you in the right direction.

TGIF

It’s Friday night in Marathon! That means that if you’re looking for something other than the usual (gorgeous)  sunset to watch this evening, there’s plenty of live musical acts to entertain you. Our picks for this evening are as follows…

The Brass Monkey: This iconic dive bar has been entertaining locals and visitors alike for decades. Tonight, you’ll be seeing a legend live when you stop in to see Freddie Bye and the Brass Monkey House Band shake things up. Bye has been playing at the Brass Monkey for over 30 years, and his special brand of rock and roll is always worth a listen.

The Hurricane: Locals have swarmed this fun-loving bar for over 50 years, and tonight The Swinging Harpoon will have you on your feet with their big southern bluesy rock. These boys can play a harmonica like they invented it. Go tonight! You won’t be sorry.

For directions or alternate suggestions on how to spend a Friday evening in Marathon, ask our super friendly front desk agents right here at Tranquility Bay Beach House Resort.

TGIF, everyone!
