Fishing Report for Marathon

Fall is the slow season for most fishing charters down here in the keys, with many locals choosing to go on vacation this time of year due to the lower number of visitors, but for those who are still around there is a bounty of good fishing available.  The reduced numbers of anglers in the water means lower pressure on fish at the reefs and wrecks, with reports coming in that lots of yellowtail and mutton snapper are still available and biting well.  In blue water there are increasing bites of cobia, sailfish and kingfish, with the occasional wahoo giving anglers the fight of their lives.   Also keep in mind that the cooler water that comes with fall makes for great bonefishing, and on the higher tides keep an eye out for great permit and tarpon bites. While certainly not as busy as summer,  fall is definitely an exciting time to get out there and put some lines in the water– so what are you waiting for? Talk to one of the front desk agents at Tranquility Bay to see which charter is right for you!

Fishing Report for Marathon

Here at Tranquility Bay Resort, we’re a little obsessed with lobster. Which is why we’re so excited at the results of 2012′s spiny lobster season thus far– with novices and experts alike reporting back to us that they’re getting their daily limits with ease. We love reading Best Bet Sportfishing Charter’s fishing reports, both because they’re educational (Captain Jason Long is a pro) and because they always lift our spirits when we’re trapped inside, dreaming of the open seas. Long has some great advice for those of you who are looking to get out on the water and grab some tails. Check out his words of wisdom here.

Did you know that our brilliant chefs at the Butterfly Cafe are more than happy to cook your catch for you? However you like it– grilled, blackened, baked or fried– there’s nothing as satisfying as coming back from a charter flush with fish and being able to enjoy the fruits of your labor mere hours afterwards…all without the hassle of having to cook & clean up yourself! Why not try your hand at lobstering this year, and have our kitchens prepare some tasty tails for you and your family? Just speak to the front desk here at Tranquility Bay for the best charter option to fit your needs… it’s so easy, even a lobster could do it.

Weekend Fishing Report for Marathon

Scorching hot weather this weekend means it’s a great time to get out on the water where the temperatures are cooler, and where the fishing reports are coming back full of exciting leads! Offshore Mahi-Mahi are back after disappointing numbers over the past few weeks, with Blackfin Tuna being brought in as well. For those who prefer to keep a little closer to shore, reef fishing is as great as it’s been all summer, with Mangrove, Mutton and Yellowtail Snapper being hauled up in abundance, and Black Grouper being spotted as well.

Our pick for an excellent charter boat option this week is “The Best Bet,” whose boats are located at Key Colony Beach Marina at Mile Marker 54. Reports of their recent Blue Marlin catch have us itching to head out on a day trip with those folks. To book a trip or to find out more about what’s biting you can give their Captain Jason Long a call at 305-395-1376.

As always, if you need advice on which trip suits you and your needs best, ask your friendly front desk agent at Tranquility Bay. They’ll be more than happy to point you in the right direction.

Fishing Report

Now that the wildness of mini lobster season is finally over, we’ll go back to regular fishing for a couple of weeks before the season opens in full.  Tuna are being consistently caught out on the hump, but not in the numbers that we saw a few weeks ago.  Tarpon are also still somewhat available, but again the numbers are a bit patchy compared to their prime season.  The best fishing right now is probably for snapper and the smaller grouper– look near the reef, in holes in florida bay or by bridges.  We have had reports of good numbers from Bahia Honda and some small bridges, and some fantastic days from fishermen at the Seven Mile Bridge. Weather is still expected to be patchy as the summer continues, so stay alert when booking a charter and be aware of refund or rebooking policies ahead of time. And as always, don’t forget to bring sunblock! Summer weather will be at its hottest this month and August, so protect yourself and those you love to insure everyone has a great time out on the water.

Fishing Report

For those of you looking to get out on the water, you’re certainly in for a treat: reef fishing is at a season high right now, with Mutton, Mangrove and Yellowtail Snapper being hauled in at astonishing rates. Local charters are reporting that the Snapper bite is good around the clock– which means that now’s a great time to try out night fishing, everyone’s favorite way to beat the heat and still take home some prize catches. While offshore fishing is also excellent now, with Mahi Mahi being pulled in regularly, the reef fishing is truly spectacular and anglers of all skill levels will definitely enjoy the rod-bending bites they’re sure to get from some of the best fighting (and tasting) fish out there!

Friday Forecast

Though it’s mostly cloudy now, with temperatures that feel closer to the 90′s than the 80′s, today’s forecast looks promising. Clouds look to be moving off, and while the chance of precipitation is still hovering at about 30%, winds are looking milder than they were at the beginning of the week. Today’s looking like a great day to get out on the water, with the partial clouds offering a respite from the sun as temperatures stay sweltering. As the fishing stays top-notch, now is a great time to get out there and start throwing lines into the water. If you don’t have your gear or would like a more specialized day of fishing, ask the staff at Tranquility Bay’s front desk to recommend a charter! And don’t forget to load up on the sunscreen today– cloudy skies will still dole out a scorching sunburn if you’re not careful.

Happy Friday, everyone!

Marathon Fishing Report

If there’s one good thing about stormy weather (and believe us, we’re looking for any bright spot in this sea of gloom) it’s that after the storm passes and the squall is over, the fishing is always especially excellent. After the last 10 days of rain and wind the fishing report for the next week looks fantastic, with Dolphin and Tuna being found in abundance offshore, while inshore catches of Grouper, Jacks and Snapper (as well as sharks) are being reported as very good. As always, if you’re at a loss as to which style of fishing or charter boat is right for you and your family, stop in at our front desk at ask one of our Tranquility Bay agents to assist you in choosing the right trip! Our staff is knowledgeable and would love to help.

Good luck out there…
